Barksdale conducts exercise Bayou Vigilance 26-3
BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. – During exercise Bayou Vigilance 26-3, Airmen assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing assessed their training, preparedness and their capability to carry out combat missions.
During the exercise, Airmen used the training as an opportunity to work alongside other units, strengthening the coordination and communication that support mission operations.
“Bayou Vigilance gives us an opportunity to test our readiness in a realistic environment and identify where we can improve and demonstrate the Mighty Deuce’s ability to deter our adversaries and assure our allies,” said Col. Chris Cain, 2nd Bomb Wing commander. “Exercises like this ensure our Airmen are prepared to respond quickly and effectively when called upon.”
Bayou Vigilance 26-3 tested the wing’s ability to react to simulated situations while making sure operations continued throughout the base. The exercise enabled teams to evaluate their performance in real-world conditions and implement the knowledge they gained through training.
The 2nd Force Support Squadron supported the exercise by cooking, preparing and delivering meals that kept aircrew and other personnel fed throughout the exercise.
At the same time, the 2nd Maintenance Group kept aircraft ready to fly at any time by performing maintenance, towing aircraft and inspecting landing parachutes. The 2nd Security Forces Squadron provided security of the B-52’s by creating an entry control point and guarding aircraft. Additionally, leadership throughout the base dedicated long hours to the Crisis Action Team, managing the response and assisting operations.
The 2nd Medical Group was also involved by responding to a simulated casualty exercise, evaluating the team's ability to provide care while operating under the stress of a simulated crisis.
Every 2nd Bomb Wing unit and organization that participated in the exercise maintained base operations while responding quickly to the scenarios that were put in place.
Bayou Vigilance 26-3 demonstrated Barksdale's operational readiness in conditions similar to those they could face during real-world operations allowing the Airmen at the 2nd Bomb Wing to put their skills to work, respond to challenges and demonstrate their ability to execute the mission under pressure.
