Fierce thunder and pounding rain began hitting the D.C. Area right around dinnertime Thursday, catching some pedestrians off guard and sending them scurrying to get to shelter. In the churning wind on Military Road NW near Rock Creek Park a tree came crashing down onto a minivan, crushing the windshield and part of the roof. The driver’s side window collapsed.
Democratic mayoral nominee Muriel Bowser came prepared Friday, with her campaign announcing just a day before that former mayor Anthony Williams had endorsed her and would join her parade entourage. Bowser couldn’t have picked a better parade partner—as Williams walked by, paradegoers stood up from their lawn chairs and applauded the two-term mayor.
