Hundreds of postal service carts stolen in District Heights

Officials say they were stolen, and the postal service logos painted over before being taken to recycling centers in the area by two Anne Arundel County men: 52-year-old Aaron Howard and 57-year-old Roland Muir.

Police say the two sold 380,000 pounds of the scrap aluminum and made almost a quarter million dollars in cash before they were caught.

Two Gunshot Victims Found in D.C. Wednesday

D.C. police found two gunshot victims at separate crime scenes Wednesday afternoon.

Crews responded to the 5800 block of Field Place NE around 3:30 p.m. for a shooting, a couple blocks from H.D. Woodson High School. There, they found a man not conscious or breathing. Homicide detectives have been dispatched to the scene.

Next Step for Struggling Roosevelt High School: International Relations?

In a press release, DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced a proposal to “transform Roosevelt High School into a new international relations focused school.” The school, temporarily located at the shuttered neighboring MacFarland Middle School, will move back into its old building after renovation is complete in the fall of 2015.

The brutal robbery and assault happened in this Northwest alley early Sunday morning. Neighbors believe they may have even heard the victim’s cries for help – however, it all just happened too fast.

Body found in Anacostia River that of man missing from Nationals game, police say Monday

The body of a man pulled from the Anacostia River on Saturday has been identified as a 25-year-old from Alexandria who disappeared during a rain delay at a May 5 Nationals game, D.C. police said Monday.

Sinkhole closes part of road in Northwest D.C.

D.C. Police said the 5700 block of 27th Street NW is closed Monday morning because of a sinkhole.
It was not immediately known how big the sinkhole was. The street is closed between Northampton Street and Nebraska Avenue NW.

Washington Post Settles Lawsuit From Circulation Contractor

The Washington Post last month settled a lawsuit filed by an independent contractor who claimed the Post welched on its promise to refund unsold copies of the paper he bought for distribution to retailers such as CVS.
